That would be “ExtraSensory Religious Perception…”
A customer at work the other day was announcing to all and sundry, “I’m a minister, so I know….” He commented on how happy I seemed, and noticed how well-liked I am by my associates and said to me, “The light of Jesus just shines from you; I can tell you’re a woman who loves the lord! I’m a minister and I know these things!”
I later thanked my associate for not revealing that I am a pagan atheist…. She said no prob!
WHY do people assume they know anything about your faith?

Most people are silly most of the time regardless of religion or whatnot.
People like to assume things because it’s an ego boost. People like to feel good about themselves. We like to lie. Terrible habit, but it’s so ingrained into how most of us (me!) operate that we do it without thinking or convince ourselves we aren’t lying.
It was compassionate of you not to tell him off, but perhaps it would have been a good learning experience.
The individual you mention simply assumes to much of his position. If you were to meet someone who really had that kind of discernment, you could expect them to be much more humble about themselves. There is a Russian Saint, Father Arseny (+1973) who could read the hearts of people around him and could know the intimate past of other individuals he had just met. He was an incredibly humble man who thought nothing of himself, and therefore assumed such gifts were a function of his office as a priest, when in reality they were given out of his humility and love and service of other people (towards which he used them).
I don’t want to knock that minister though. Perhaps he was familiar with spiritual gifts somewhat, but simply did not understand how those gifts function, again unwittingly making to much of his office.
Most people are silly most of the time.

Oh, you mean the way you atheists assume you know that all Christians are raging bigots who hate everyone who isn’t a carbon copy of them?
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that it’s OK for atheists to make an unlimited ammount of blanket generalizations about Christians but expect Christians to bend over and take it.
EDIT: Putting you in youre place means I’m angry?
Uggggh you don’t know how bad that pisses me off! Because you are a nice person with a positive aura about you, you must be filled with jeebus juice. grrrrr….
I would have told him I was a pagan atheist if I were you, but yeah, it probably wouldn’t have done anything but get you preached at.
Well, everybody knows that is only through Christ that a person can be happy, well liked and loving.
Therefor he MUST be correct and you MUST really be a Christian. I knew it all along.
HeeHee (((Chicky)))
Because peace, happiness and showing love to others is a way to spot Christians before they even say they are Christian!
